About the Creator
Tammy Kostersky
Tammy Kostersky has been a dedicated dance educator for over 30 years. As the founder of Dance Innovations Inc., she established a nurturing environment where students and staff could thrive, fostering creativity, passion, and a commitment to excellence.
Tammy’s commitment to the dance education field has guided her pursuit as a lifelong learner. She has earned a BFA, BA, and a Master's in Arts Education while maintaining dance credentials with RAD, ADAPT and Acrobatic Arts. Her extensive academic and professional qualifications underscore her dedication to advancing dance education.
Driven by a desire to connect more students with the joy of dance, Tammy transitioned to the academic sector, where she identified a similar enthusiasm among children. She successfully engaged students who might not have had the opportunity to experience dance outside of school, providing them with a sense of belonging.
Recognizing that many educators were required to teach dance with little to no formal training, Tammy saw the need for accessible resources. She understood the challenges passionate educators faced when seeking to integrate dance into their classrooms.
Inspired by Elliot Eisner's words, "First is to decide what is important in schools and second is to create the conditions that are consistent with that mission," Tammy founded The Dance Effect Consulting Services. Through tailored workshops and collaborative sessions, this initiative offers professional development opportunities for academic teachers and school divisions, facilitating the integration of dance into their educational programs.
Currently, Tammy continues to innovate and inspire, cultivating a vibrant dance environment in schools. She also stays connected to the private sector as an educator and choreographer for independent studios and adjudicator for competitions and festivals. She is passionate about sharing her expertise with other educators, fostering a broader appreciation for dance education.
